Nathan Montez planned on attending Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in medical or veterinary sciences. After his passing, his older brothers decided to honor his memory by matching his savings to fund scholarships for students at J. Frank Dobie High School, where Nathan and his brothers were part of the band program.

In May 2024, they awarded two scholarships to band students attending an acccredited college. Their goal is to continue this tradition annually, expanding the scholarship program across the school district and, one day, even nationally.

Scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year will be awarded to students in the J. Frank Dobie High School band program.

Scholarships for the 2025-2026 school year will be dedicated to members of the J. Frank Dobie High School Senior Class of 2026, which would have been Nathan’s graduating class.
